The American Colleague Congratulated the Independence Day to the President of Georgia

On behalf of the American people, I extend my congratulations to you on the 20th anniversary of your country's independence.

Since Georgia achieved its freedom, the United States has stood with it in building an independent and sovereign nation. Over the last two decades, Georgia has made tremendous progress in working to fulfill the Georgian peoples' aspirations for democracy, prosperity, and security. The United States remains steadfastly committed to Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to cooperating with Georgia to promote peace and stability.

The United States is grateful for Georgia's contributions to advancing global security, including through the deployment of your military forces to Afghanistan. We appreciate the courageous service and sacrifices made by Georgian soldiers and their families.

Georgia's achievements continue to be an important example for other democratic movements around the world. The United States pledges continued support for Georgia's efforts to consolidate democratic gains, secure further economic growth, and live in peace with its neighbors. We look forward to continuing to build on our partnership for many decades to come.
